In the age of modern computing there is such a thing as too far for some people. For the religious right often it seems that certain people believe that too far into the depths of the human genome we shall dive and people won’t be people anymore and so stem cells, genetic mutations, and the like are just out of the question. For other people they get creeped out by the fact that one can find you at any given moment by cell phones, and they believe that tracking technology is coming too far and they want to move out to the arctic.
Yet it always seems that those kooky scientists don’t have a problem when it comes to stepping it up in the world of science. With every advancement there is not only a reason that we should proceed, but also the general consensus that everything they’re doing is for the good of humanity. That is not always the case however. Other than of course the religious scientists out there and just any plain other scientist that has (rightfully so) an opposing viewpoint, even the general usually callous to forewarnings group of tech-scientists seem to be worried. What about? AI. Artificial intelligence.
They have taught robots how to put themselves together. They have taught a robot how to learn, so that it can discover motor abilities and the power of speech. Just imagine, a robot that is smarter, more capable physically, and certainly more durable than a human. How would that work in the workplace? Would labor jobs suffer? Would statiticians cease to exist? Economists? Cooks? Virtually any part of society in a workplace could be in some sense replaced with a Robot they fear. And what of the Societal repercussions? Could they own a house? Could they get married? Who knows.
Also this is very important on the home front. Robots in the home would lead to security errors unlike anything imaginable. Your computer now is something that is protected so you are not attacked by means of computer vulnerability. But what if the computer itself attacked you? That is something you’d have to worry about with a 300 lb robot in the home. Which is why people need Professionals
